Teacher

Nadine's passion for teaching began when she was on work experience as a 15 year old. On just her second day with a class of Year 3 students, the regular class teacher unexpectedly called in sick and Nadine was left to supervise the class for the morning on her own (aside from the very helpful teacher next door whom the children were terrified of!). Being thrown in the deep end, she used her intuition to find enjoyable and productive activities for the students to do and by the end of an exhausting morning, she knew she wanted to be a teacher.

She began her teaching career at Cheltenham Girls High School on Sydney's north shore where she enjoyed working with the spirited and motivated girls. She became the large English faculty's 2IC in her second year at the school and continued teaching Year 7 to Year 12. When Nadine moved to Newcastle, NSW, she taught Drama and English on a casual basis until she began her work with the Australian Technical College - Hunter, teaching HSC English to students completing the HSC along side a Trade Certificate.

During this time, Nadine also tutored students in small groups and one-on-one, from Year 1 to Year 12 (ESL, Standard, Advanced and Extension). As a tutor, Nadine focuses on the skills students need to succeed on their own in exams. She helps students to develop reading task strategies as well as skills in understanding exam questions, fluidity of written expression and study skills. Her particular area of expertise is in critical analysis, essay structure and planning, and creative writing. Nadine aims to help students develop confidence in their own knowledge and ability to express their ideas clearly within the framework of the task at hand.
